Studies and Occupational Information
Andreas-Alexandros Vasilakis is an Assistant Professor of Computer Graphics at the Department of Informatics of the Athens University of Economics and Business. He received his B.Sc. in Computer Science (2006, valedictorian), and his M.Sc. (2008) and Ph.D. (2014) degrees from the University of Ioannina.
His postgraduate research was supported by doctoral and postdoctoral scholarships. He was a postdoctoral researcher at CERTH (2016-2017) and worked as a senior graphics software engineer at Think Silicon (2017-2018). He was also co-founder and CEO of Phasmatic (2022-2025), an R&D company specializing in visualization & reconstruction with 3D & AI. From 2020 till 2025, Prof. Vasilakis has been teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in computer graphics, interaction design, XR, and programming as adjunct professor.
His research focuses on photorealistic rendering, geometry processing and animation, web and neural rendering, and virtual & augmented reality. He has participated in over 30 national and European R&D projects, has co-authored more than 35 scientific publications, and has served on the program committees of international conferences such as SIGGRAPH Asia, Eurographics, GRAPP, and CASA. He is a member of the Eurographics Association, ACM Greek SIGCHI, and Hellenic Informatics Association.
Last but not least, Prof. Vasilakis contributed to the Khronos Group and the Metaverse Standards Forum on open standards for 3D graphics and XR, working with technologies and working groups such as glTF, KTX, and 3DCommerce.
