  • G. Papaioannou

    Prof. Georgios Papaioannou

    Technical coordination, 3D modelling, level design, programming, sound engineering.

    Georgios Papaioannou is an Associate Professor of Computer Graphics at the Department of Informatics of the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) and head of the AUEB computer graphics group. He is currently the director of the MSc program in Digital Methods for the Humanities, member of the UNESCO chair for digital methods for the humanities and social sciences and administrator of the computer systems and communications department sector. His research is focused on real-time computer graphics algorithms, photorealistic rendering, shape analysis and geometry processing. He received a 4-year BSc in Computer Science in 1996 and a PhD degree in Computer Graphics and Shape Analysis in 2001, both from the National and Kapodestrian University of Athens, Greece. Since 1997, he has worked as a research fellow in many research and development projects. From 2002 till 2007 he worked as a software engineer in virtual reality systems at the Foundation of the Hellenic World. Prof. Papaioannou has been teaching elementary and advanced computer graphics, programming and human-computer interaction courses since 2002 and he has been the principal investigator for AUEB in many EU and nationally funded projects as well as R&D collaborations with the industrial sector. Prof. Papaioannou has more than 80 publications in peer-reviewed international scientific journals, conference proceedings and volumes, with more than 1900 citations to his work. He is also a member of ACM, SIGGRAPH, Eurographics Association and has been a member of the program committees of many conferences in the above fields.

  • A. Benardou

    Dr. Agiatis Benardou

    Project coordination, historical research

    Agiatis Benardou is President of the Board of Directors of DARIAH-eu, the European Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities, Teaching Fellow at the Department of Informatics, Athens University of Economics and Business and Senior Researcher at the Digital Curation Unit, ATHENA R.C. She has held posts as Research Associate at the Departments of Information Science and Critical Studies, University of Glasgow, and Visiting Scholar at the Department of Near Eastern Studies, University of California Berkeley. Agiatis has served as Teaching Fellow in Digital Curation at the Department of Media and Culture, Panteion University, and she is co-ordinating the core course on Applications of Digital Methods in the Humanities at the Department of Informatics, Athens University of Economics and Business. She holds a PhD in Ancient History and Archaeology from King’s College London, where she also obtained her undergraduate and master's degrees in Ancient History. Additionally, she has a second master's degree in Cultural Management and Communication from the Department of Communication, Media, and Culture at Panteion University. She has worked for over 15 years in the field of Digital Humanities and has participated in national and international initiatives as a team member, work package leader, and project coordinator. Her main interests include digital history, digital storytelling, and user requirements.

  • D. Christopoulos

    Dimitrios Christopoulos, M.Sc.

    VR production development and scripting

    Dimi studied Computer Engineering and Informatics and holds a Master of Science in Virtual Reality and Computer Graphics. He has 16+ years experience in 3D Computer Graphics with a strong speciality in C/C++/OpenGL and Linux. Dimi has worked for european union research projects, indy game productions and museum venues. Producing 3D applications for desktop computers/mobile phones and cultural heritage productions for virtual reality installations such as Domes, Caves, Reality Centers and Powerwalls. His research interests include Virtual Reality, Human Computer Interaction, Computer Graphics and Games, with numerous publications in relevant conferences, books and journals. He is now an active developer and contributer of the OpenSceneGraph project.

  • P. Constantopoulos

    Prof. Panos Constantopoulos

    Project coordination (phase 1-2)

    Panos Constantopoulos is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Informatics and holds the UNESCO Chair on Digital Methods for the Humanities and Social Sciences. He has served as Dean of the School of Information Sciences and Technology, Chairman of the Department of Informatics, Director of the MSc Programme in Digital Methods for the Humanities and Director of the Information Systems and Databases Laboratory. He is affiliated with the Information Management Systems Institute of the “Athena” Research Centre, where he heads the Digital Curation Unit. He has previously been Professor and Chairman in the Department of Computer Science, University of Crete (1986-2003). From 1992 to 2003 he was head of the Information Systems Laboratory and the Centre for Cultural Informatics at the Institute of Computer Science, Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas. He was also a visiting professor at the Université de Paris – Sud, the Conservatoire National des Arts et Metiers and the University of Toronto, visiting director of research (CNRS) at the Université de Paris – Sud, and visiting scientist at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center and the Operations Research Center, MIT.

    He holds a Diploma in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (1978), a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University (1979) and a Doctor of Science in Operations Research from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1983). His scientific interests include: knowledge representation and conceptual modelling, ontology engineering, semantic information access, process mining, knowledge management systems, decision support systems, cultural informatics, digital libraries, digital curation and preservation. He has been principal investigator or scientific responsible on the part of his affiliation in 40 national or international research and development projects. He is the coordinator of “APOLLONIS”, the Greek Infrastructure for Digital Arts, Humanities and Language Research and Innovation. He has supervised 5 doctoral theses and over 50 postgraduate theses. He has published over 100 articles in scientific journals, conference proceedings or as book chapters.

  • A. M. Droumbouki

    Dr. Anna Maria Droumbouki

    Historical and archive research

    Anna Maria Droumpouki holds a BA in History and Archaeology, an MA in Museology and a PhD in Contemporary Greek and European History (all from the University of Athens). She was a Visiting Research Scholar at the Leibniz Institute for Jewish History and Culture – Simon Dubnow (Leipzig, 2009), and a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Research Centre for Modern History of Panteion University (Athens, 2014-16). She is a founding member of the Workshop on the Study of Modern Greek Jewry. She was research assistant and scientific coordinator of the Greek- German Project “Memories of the Occupation in Greece” at Free University Berlin (2016-2018) and a Gerda Henkel Fellow, working on the project: “The Shoah and the (re)making of Greek Jewry: The case of the Jews in Athens” (2019- 2021, with Dr. Philip Carabott). She is affiliated with Selma Stern Zentrum Berlin, Humboldt University.

    Maria Ilvanidou, M.Sc.

    Maria Ilvanidou is an archaeologist and digital humanities specialist, currently working as scientific associate at Digital Curation Unit, IMSI, Athena RC and at the Department of Informatics, Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB). She is project manager of the “Digital Landscape” project (Athena RC) and team member of 4CH (Athena RC) and Block 15 (AUEB) projects, while she has been project manager, on behalf of DCU, of the APOLLONIS Research Infrastructure. Maria is Co-Head of DARIAH-EU Virtual Competency Center (VCC) 2 on Research and Education, associate of the UNESCO Chair on Digital Methods for the Humanities and Social Sciences (AUEB), and instructor at MSc Program in Digital Methods for the Humanities (AUEB) . She holds a BA in History and Archeology (University of Athens, 2001) and an MSc in Cultural Informatics and Heritage Management (University of Crete, 2005). She has previously worked in various digital humanities projects at the Greek Ministry of Culture, the National Research Foundation, the Academy of Athens, the University of Crete, and the Foundation of Research and Technology. Her research interests include digital research infrastructures, digital history, digital archaeology, GIS and spatial humanities, heritage management and communication.

    Yannis Ragos

    Screenwritting

    Yannis Ragos was born in Athens, Greece, in 1966. Author and journalist. He has published four books, among them crime novels and short crime stories He has also written television and film scripts. His is in charge of the crime fiction series “Verba Obscura” of Indiktos Publications. Founding member of the Greek Crime Writers Club and member of the International Association of Crime Writers (IACW).

  • G. Gousis

    Giorgios Goussis

    Yorgos Goussis was born in Athens and works as a comic book creator and short film director. In 2012 he published the collection of short stories Innocent Times (ΚΨΜ publications), while in 2016 he created a comic book adaptation of the Greek renaissance epic poem Erotokritos by Vitsentzos Kornaros (script: Dimosthenis Papamarkos and Yannis Ragos, Polaris publications), for which he won five Greek Comics Awards. Between 2017 and 2019, he acted as editor-in-chief for the Greek comics magazine Blue Comet. In 2019, he was commissioned by the Thessaloniki International Film Festival to produce, together with Panayiotis Pantazis and Georgia Zachari, the 180-page-long comic book Festival, an anniversary edition to mark the 60 years since the launch of the festival. In 2018 he was the production designer of the Greek short film Iskioma (Faliro House Productions). In 2019 he debuted as a director with the documentary The arm wrestler, which was awarded second place in the Best Short Film category during the 25th Athens International Film Festival, and was named Best Short Documentary for 2020 by the Hellenic Film Academy.

  • V. Dritsou

    Vicky Dritsou

    Vicky Dritsou is an informatician specialized in semantic databases, ontologies use and development, knowledge representation and management systems, conceptual modeling. She has participated as a research fellow in many research and development projects as a semantic web technologies and knowledge organization expert, both national and international. She holds a BSc in Informatics (2003), an MSc in Information Systems (2005) and a PhD (2011) in Informatics, all three from the Department of Informatics of Athens University of Economics and Business. She teaches Systems Modeling and Knowledge Organization at the Department of Informatics of Athens University of Economics and Business. Before joining DCU, she has worked as a research associate for the Foundation of Research and Technology (FORTH) in Crete and for Polo di Genomica, Genetica e Biologia (Polo GGB) in Perugia, Italy.

  • S. Spiliopoulos

    Spilios Spiliopoulos

    Infrastructure support

    Spilios Spiliopoulos has been a member of the Laboratory Teaching Staff of the School of Information Science and Technology of the Athens University of Economics and Business since 2014. He holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Computer Science and an MSc in Decision Science with a specialization in e-commerce from AUEB. He is a teaching assistant in the Digital Systems Design, Information Systems Analysis, Conceptual Systems Modeling and C++ Programming courses of the Department of Informatics. He also teaches Python Programming in the MSc Digital Methods for the Humanities. He has worked on various EU-funded projects and was a member of the AUEB administrative staff. His research interests focus on the field of online information systems, web services and databases.
